Silver Spruce Needle

 

Scientific Name:  Abies alba

Country of Origin:  European Mountainous regions

Synonyms:  White Spruce, European Silver Fir

Plant family:  Pinaceae

Plant Parts Used:  Tree/Needles/Leaves

Extraction Method:  Steam distillation of needles and leaves.

Physical Characteristics:  A colourless or pale yellow liquid of pleasing, rich, sweet-balsamic odour.

Aroma:  Similar to fir needle oil, but with a more orange like fragrance.

Main Constituents:  Santene, pinene, limonene, bornyl acetate, lauraldehyde, among others.

Blends With: Galbanum, Cistus, Lavender, Rosemary, Lemon, Pine and Marjoram.

Safety Precautions:  Generally non-toxic, non-irritant, non-sensitizing.  In large doses it is a purgative and may cause nausea.
